Job Description

The Prince Albert Grand Council is currently looking for a full time JR Knowledge Keeper to motivate youth to discover their identity as First Nations Youth. The JR Knowledge Keeper is responsible for connecting with youth within the PAGC Land Based Healing Project funded through Jordan’s Principle. The Knowledge Keeper will work with youth and young adults to provide teachings, ceremonies and drumming which includes 32 weeks on the land activities and camping and other holistic programming to be developed with YAC to engage and empower the youth in the community to have fun and be safe in a positive environment where all youth and young adults feel belonging so they can learn the skills needed to live meaningful and productive lives as they learn to develop and share their gifts with others.

Service Goals

  • Service the needs of all youth by working with them to promote and protect life.
  • Create services that promote a sense of belonging by providing necessary activities and education so youth find purpose and meaning as they discover and become the best they can be as Indigenous youth.
  • Advocate and provide opportunities for the youth to find their voice and use it respectfully.
  • Educate youth on their history and traditional teachings to aid seeking their identity
  • Develop services, activities and events that promote youth empowerment.
  • Mentor youth as they struggle with life challenges.
  • Support healing through traditional ceremonies, land-based teachings and western teachings to deal with their grief due to loss of trust, self-esteem, identity, family, culture, trust, hope,
  • Incorporate 40 essential assets as part of the youth experience.

Essential Functions

  • Work with YAC and PAGC ELC and PAGC Land Based Team in planning a program, and coordinating and promoting youth, young adult, and family programming including but not limited to sports.
  • Specific needs that will be addressed using a strength-based model include sense of belonging, unresolved grief, building strong healthy relationships within the family, personal health practices and coping skills, decision making, problem solving etc.
  • Cultural teachings and ceremonies, language classes, and proper protocols
  • Engage and empower youth to learn leadership through opportunities to foster development of strong self-esteem.
  • Work hands on in programs, activities and special events as needed.
  • Provide quality interaction to members, volunteers and participants.
  • Assist with the implementation and delivery of on the land training and meeting coordination
  • Provide the following services during our Land Based Healing Camps:
  • Welcome song.
  • Wake up drum song each day
  • Intro use of hand drums and singing
  • Instruct on different Round Dances to bring celebration and a lighter mood
  • Share his own healing journey as he has been introduced to and learned traditional teachings and ceremonies
  • Lead talking circles and Sharing Circles and work with those one on one who want his help
  • Healing of the Drum (2 hr session) and at other times as needed on the schedule
  • Oscapios for sweat; cloth and offerings of tobacco; tobacco ties; smudging
  • Help with Medicine Wheel session in prep for carrying on the healing when campers return home
  • Help with the Closing Ceremony
  • Prepared to bring other teachings and ceremonies that may be needed by the campers
  • Share his voice as a young person as he helps the youth to use their voices in positive ways as well.
