PAGC Youth Empowerment Strategy (YES) is funded by Jordan’s Principle for First Nations urban youth between the ages of 11-18. The objective of the PAGC YES is to support and empower urban First Nations youth in developing a healthy self-esteem through cultural and traditional teachings, life skills and physical activities guided by the medicine wheel concept and the seven grandfather teachings.
Job Description:
The youth mentor must be passionate about working with youth and have the ability to design, deliver and oversee the successful completion of daily activities/programs. Youth workers must be highly interactive engaging and must have the ability to work with youth experiencing challenging situations and be able to support the youth in transitioning from negative situations to healthier alternatives.
In addition, camping outdoors for multiple days and nights must also be intriguing for individuals wishing to become part of the YES team.
Youth programming and services are delivered by a dynamic team and are provided 5 days/week Tuesday to Friday 1pm – 9pm and Saturday from 10am – 6pm.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Planning and organizing appropriate youth programs and activities
• Establishing new youth services
• Producing reports and workplans in a timely manner.
• Liaising and working with parents, schools, PAGC staff, and others
• Giving presentations and willingness to share their gifts
• Promoting young people’s interests
• Empowering youth to reach their potential
• Teaching the youth skills needed to be successful
• Maintaining records daily
• Providing opportunity for youth to access professional help needed
