The Prince Albert Grand Council is currently looking for a full time Youth Coordinators for the community. The Youth Coordinator is responsible for overseeing various programs within the PAGC Land Based Healing Project funded through Jordan’s Principle. The Coordinator will work with youth and young adults to provide a quality program which includes 15 days of on the land activities and camping and other holistic programming to be developed with YAC to engage and empower the youth in the community to have fun and be safe in a positive environment where all youth and young adults feel belonging so they can learn the skills needed to live meaningful and productive lives as they learn to develop and share their gifts with others.
Service Goals
Youth Coordinators will work under the daily supervision of the Health Director in the community and under the supervision of Associate Director@ Holistic Wellness. Yearly Workplan, Monthly calendars, and daily activities must be shared with both supervisors prior to activity or events.
Essential Functions
- Work with YAC and PAGC Land Based Team/ Coordinator in planning a program, and coordinating and promoting youth, young adult, and family programming including but not limited to sports.
- Specific needs that will be addressed using a strength based model including sense of belonging, unresolved grief, building strong healthy relationships within the family, personal health practices and coping skills, decision making, problem solving etc.
- Cultural teachings and ceremonies, language classes, and proper protocols
- Engage and empower youth to learn leadership through opportunities to foster development of strong self-esteem.
- Work hands on in programs, activities and special events as needed.
- Provide quality interaction to members, volunteers and participants.
- Assist with the implementation and delivery of on the land training and meeting coordination
- Work “with” volunteers and community staff and oversee daily operations of the project.
Requirements
- Energetic, enthusiastic and passionate about working with youth, young adults and families.
- Minimum of 24 years of age and a resident of the community.
- Cree speaker, an asset
- Experience working with youth, young adults and families.
- Demonstrated ability to provide and role model quality life style, and effectively work with others.
- Must be self-directed and detail orientated.
- Demonstrated organization and communication skills
- CPR, AED, Wilderness Safety and First Aid and ASIST certifications required within 60 days of hire
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
- Basic computer skills
- Knowledgeable of survival skills needed while on the land, hunting, fishing, trapping, preparation of traditional foods, and setting up and organizing a safe camping experience.
- Willing to work on the land with youth, young adults and families in all seasons.
