ASSISTANT COOK/HELPER

The assistant cook role is to assist in preparing and cook meals for patients, following dietary needs and preferences while maintaining food safety and cleanliness of the Dining room area; work with the full-time cook of food services of YUASNI TIPI FAMILY TREATMENT CENTRE (Wednesday – Sunday)  Subject to Personnel Policies and Procedures of Prince Albert Grand Council and Yuasni Tipi Family Treatment Centre Operational Manual).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for assisting with the menu planning, preparation, serving attractive and nutritionally balanced meals according to the Canada Food Guide with special attention being given to the food preferences of First Nations and chemically dependent clients.
  • Assist in preparing a variety of meals and dishes, including main courses, side dishes, and snacks.
  • Assist in ensuring food is fresh, safe, and prepared according to established standards.
  • Assist in ensuring that food purchases are of high quality and purchased at an economical cost.
  • Ensure the Dining area is clean, organized and safe.
  • Ensure coffee, tea and supplies are maintained and provided.
  • Assist to ensure kitchen door closed and locked.
  • Reports any malfunction of Dining equipment to the Cook.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and sanitation of the dining room, refrigeration, and storage areas.
  • Assist to ensure that all rooms where freezers and food storage rooms are kept locked.

      May assist with setting up and overseeing buffets or other food service Yuasni events.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Has a good working knowledge and respect for all First Nations and Aboriginal cultures, values, spirituality, and cultural methods.
  • Participates in cultural, recreational and community activities related to the Centre, as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Two (2) years continuous sobriety/abstainer if required by organizational policy.
  • Fluency in English a requirement, fluency in a First Nations language of the Prince Albert Grand Council area an asset.
  • Proven experience in food preparation, sanitation in residential food services.
  • Minimum Grade 10
  • A minimum of two (2) years work experience Food Preparation.
  • Food Safety Certificate.
  • Organization and time management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Certificate in St. John’s First Aid/CPR.
  • Able to communicate and relate well with people and families.
  • Knowledge and understanding of alcohol and drug addiction is an asset.
  • Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license.
