The Prince Albert Grand Council is now accepting applications for a full time Children’s Oral Health Initiative (COHI) Dental Aide in the community of Hatchet Lake Denesuline Nation. Under the direction and supervision of the PAGC Senior Dental Therapist, the COHI Dental Aide carries out the objectives of the COHI program to children ages 0-7 years old and will play an active role in promoting preventative oral health care to help children establish and maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Prior to performing COHI Dental services, the COHI Dental Aide will be required to successfully complete the COHI training. Recertification will be completed annually.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-Minimum grade 12 Diploma.
-Posses strong verbal and written communication skills.
-Basic computer skills and knowledge (Microsoft office).
-Must posses a valid Driver’s license.
-Must provide a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector check.
-Ability to speak the Dene language is an asset.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- -Provide chair-side assistance to the Dental Therapist.
- -Assist with sterilization of dental instruments, patient scheduling and record keeping.
- -Bookand arrange space for COHI activities, including screenings and sealant applications provided by the oral health professional.
- -Arrangeand book appointments with parents/caregivers for COHI services.
- -Obtainauthorization of parents/caregivers for COHI services.
- -Applyfluoride varnish according to protocol, following successful completion of a COHI training.
- -Keep recordsof activities undertaken during the COHI sessions.
- -Deliver oral health information sessions and respond to questions.
- -Promotethe COHI among community members to encourage participation.
- -Distributeoral health information sheets for community use.
- -Undertake one-on-onehome visits to discuss oral health issues with parents/caregivers and pregnant women to explain services available and the value of good oral health.
- -Liaisewith the community to support oral health prevention services.
- -Promotegood oral health habits.
- -Good communication is essential.
