POSITION SUMMARY
The Cook is responsible for the planning, preparation, cooking and serving of full course and short order meals; the general supervision of food services for the YUASNI TIPI FAMILY TREATMENT CENTRE (subject to Personnel Policies and Procedures of Prince Albert Grand Council).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for menu planning, preparation, serving attractive and nutritionally balanced meals according to the Canada Food Guide with special attention being given to the food preferences of First Nations and chemically dependent clients.
- Provides special diets for clients, co-ordinates and prepares food for special events and activities.
- Participate in, in-service and other training sessions related to food preparation, kitchen supervision and equipment operation as required and authorized by Director.
- Responsible for the purchase of food and kitchen supplies by authorized purchase orders.
- Ensures that health, sanitary standards, and regulations for food services are followed in daily kitchen operations.
- Provides a warm, homelike environment for the clients and offers positive support to clients.
- Open to participate in cultural, recreational and community activities related to the Centre, as assigned by the Director.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Two (2) years continuous sobriety/abstainer if required by organizational policy.
- Fluency in English a requirement, fluency in a First Nations language of the Prince Albert Grand Council area an asset.
- Proven ability in food preparation, budgeting, supply, and management of residential food services.
- A minimum of two (2) years work experience or possess a certificate in Commercial Cooking/Institutional Food Preparation (i.e. Sask Polytech – Food Service Cook).
- Able to communicate and relate well with people and counsel clients in nutrition skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of substance use and substance use treatment is an asset.
- Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license.
