PAGC Sports, Culture and Recreation Coordinator

The PAGC Urban Services Department is now accepting applications from qualified individuals for the position of PAGC Sports, Culture and Recreation Coordinator.

SCR Coordinator Duties:

  • Promotes events, organizes and directs the member bands sports coordinators, committees and volunteers for fund-raising events.
  • He/She has the ability to affectively delegate, motivate, and co-ordinate the activities of the member band sports coordinators, committees and volunteers.
  • He/She recruits volunteer committees to support recreation and fund-raising activities of member’s band and Tribal Council. Coordinates and directs volunteers involved with the fund-raising events to support sports and recreation activities for Tribal Council. Develops guidelines for volunteers to ensure that fund-raising dates are booked, that the license is in order, and volunteers are trained to run fund-raisers effectively.
  • Ensure that sports and recreation events meets the needs of the Tribal Council, are successfully organized within budget and effectively promoted both on and off the reserve.
  • He/She has a sound understanding of sports and coaching with technical expertise in several specific sports (Eg, soccer, hockey, broomball, etc.)
  • Responsible for recruiting and directing volunteer committees and developing guidelines and procedures for volunteer activities. Monitors the activities of volunteers involved in fund-raising events to ensure that the guidelines and procedures are effective and fundraising goals are being met.
  • Manage the promotion of sports and recreation events both on and off reserve. Designs posters and advertising for newspapers, radio, and television and sends letters of invitation to teams for tournaments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Sports Administration, Cultural Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience in program development, event planning, and community engagement.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current trends in sports, culture, and recreation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field, such as business, human resources, or community development, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are also crucial.
  • Additionally, experience in developing partnerships, working in a team environment, and effectively prioritizing tasks are often expected
  • Valid driver’s license
